Sock Monster (film)
2022&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; experimental short film (12 min.)&#38;nbsp;


	The short film was developed as part of the ‘Gelderland film pitch 2021’ of Go Short- International short film festival Nijmegen and Omroep Gelderland. The programme included a start budget, coaching and distribution by Go Short. The film has been selected for the international competion of Istanbul experimental film festival and won the KALTBLUT. Award at Fashionclash Festival 2022.


‘Sock Monster’ takes place in a dreamlike world of laundry rooms. A network of washing lines connects the rooms to one another. The ritual of washing and drying alternates until the human being leaves the room. Then the washing machine comes to life. One has a hidden agenda. Single socks are its object of trade. 


‘Sock Monster’ is a magical film that explores the phenomenon of lost socks, a world of routines and surrealism, opposing characters and strange twists. An inherently non-narrative film that allows popular culture and imagination to merge, leaving the human out of the equation.

2022&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; performance (15 min.)&#38;nbsp;


	The peformance is made with the costumes of the work&#38;nbsp;Printer says NO! The performance was presented at the opening of Dancing with Trouble of Stimuleringsfonds during Dutch Design Week 2022. Also, the performance was presented at The Grey Space in the Middle during museumnacht.&#38;nbsp;


The performance visualizes the connection of a printer with
a human. It is a magical interpretation of ERROR: the act of
disobeying a command. Who's in control?

Performance outlines:Part 1: Printers stand lifeless in a space. During
the performance the printers subtly start moving parts of
their outer shell, slowly unfolding themselves. The minimal
movements of these objects turn the printers into living
creatures. The printers start exploring their surroundings in an
animalistic way.


	Part 2: After some time of exploring, incognito dansers
step - from the side of the audience - into the performance one
by one. They are holding a leash and clip the leash to a single
printer. When the printer tries to move away, the cord gets taut.
The danser will try to move the printer one direction and the
printer will try to move the other way. The tension will build up
and with some printers get violent, dragging the printer across
the floor.

Sock Monster
2019&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; object


	Sock Monster was developed during the design in residence&#38;nbsp;(DIR) program at ArtEZ in 2019. The object was presented during Fashionclash Festival as part of Clash Project.


Sock Monster is a performative character. It’s a driving washing machine
with a small skelter inside. The monster has two sidepanels that can
unfold into a drying rack filled with single socks. The monster is originally
made for Fashionclash Festival in 2019. A fashionshow where designers
show their work live on the cat-walk.

	Sock Monster was born from the idea that pairs of socks get lost in the
laundry. This mystery of loosing pairs leaves single socks. Sock Monster
is humoristic answer to this phenomenon and can be seen as a
money launderer of single socks.

2017-2021&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; series of videos (0:20 - 1:30 min.)&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#124;&#38;nbsp; participative workshop


	The series of videos were developed during the graduation of Hanneke Klaver. The videos started as experiments with facial expression in response to social media. The term analogue face-filters came into being after writer and curator Anika Meier wrote an article in Monopol Magazine about the work. Among others, the series of videos and video installation have been presented at Lehmbruck-Museum Duisburg, Dutch Design week 2018 and as part of the group exhibition: Link in Bio - Art after Social Media at Leipzig Museum der Bildenden Künste.


#freetheexpression is a series of 50 videos in which Hanneke
explores facial expression and the movement of muscles. These
experiments are referred to as analogue face-filters, made with
easily obtainable materials like straws, metal wire, wooden sticks,
paper, and adhesive tape.

In 2017 - while the project was in the making - the number of existing
AR-filters was still limited to a handful of options like dog ears and
duckfaces. Countless numbers of people used these limiting filters
on Social Media. As a worrying result, it seemed like expression
became standardized and the individual characteristics of expression fade away. The goal of #freetheexpression is to encourage people to explore their own unique expression by
creating their own face-filter.


	Next to the series of videos that are exhibited in an installation
of mobile phones, #freetheexpression is a workshop in which
participants create their own face-filters using the same techniques
and materials as seen in the series of videos. 
In 2021, the Expression Desk was
added to the work. It is a dressing table that allows visitors to sit down
to make their own face-filter and record themselves with their mobile phone. In the drawers of the desk are different materials and tools stored that visitors can freely use.

Anti Chair Movement
2019&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; series of objects&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; short film (4 min.)&#38;nbsp;


	Anti Chair Movement is part of the graduation work of Tosca Schift. The series of objects are made from discarded chairs that were taken apart and reassembled with moveable elements. Among others, the work has been presented at Dutch Design Week and Prague International Design Festival.


	The Anti Chair Movement strives to liberate the object of its
proposed function. It is a protest directed towards the current
design workfield and shows an opposing perspective on the
traditional method of designing chairs and the way designers
define its purpose and function. Chairs seem to be sitting objects,
but they are used in many ways and for different purposes. Many
examples can be found within popular culture where people use
chairs as balancing tools, as building bricks for towers, as a drum
kit, as vehicles to hold office chair races, and many more.

	The Anti Chair Movement is particularly inspired by an ice-skater
who dances with chairs. During the dance the chair becomes a
partner, therefore the function becomes fluid and the meaning

	The performance was presented in the programme Clash House at Fashionclash Festival in Maastricht. The costumes were presented in a solo exhibition at Zinder Expo in Tiel. Since then, the performance evolved and took a new form as Plastic Shell, inner Printer. 


Nowadays a lot of products are becoming increasingly smart. The way these products communicate with humans is very intricate. If we control our objects, nothing seems to be out of order, but as soon the objects start to disobey, people start having a feeling of unease with mix of suspicion. The object might be somehow alive. Error makes its character. 


	For the performance&#38;nbsp;Printer says NO!, a series of broken printers have been stripped of its plastic covers to fit around the human body as a second shell. These printer costumes are designed to look like ordinary printers while sitting still. When the wearer starts to unfold, the printer comes to life.

Air Traffic

	The objects were part of the graduation work of Hanneke Klaver. The objects were presented at One Act Play at the Academie Galerie in Utrecht.


	Air Traffic consists of a series of blow objects that contract when the tubes fill with air. By creating different tube patterns in the fabric, the objects contract in different ways.

Catching Birds of Paradise
2018&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; short film (11 min.)&#38;nbsp;


	The film was developed as part of the graduation work of Hanneke Klaver. The film is a result of experiments with movement of the human body in connection with air.

	“In the great highland of new Guinea there are 42 different species of birds&#38;nbsp;of paradise. Each more bizarre than the last. During mating season, the male&#38;nbsp;birds execute various dances to attract female birds. They change colour,&#38;nbsp;put out their feathers and blow themselves up. It’s an oddly mesmerizing&#38;nbsp;display.’’ - David Attenborough.


Catching Birds of Paradise is inspired by the movement of exotic birds. Their strange rituals and dances are considered to be extraordinary. Looking through the eyes of the bird, the movements of a human might be just as incomprehensible to them. This given resulted in a short film in which the protagonist moves through a landscape in pursuit of catching air. It is a performative experiment in which body and materials come together in reoccurring movements.

Design Oracle
2019&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; card game&#38;nbsp; &#124;&#38;nbsp; participative performance


	The card game was launched during The Common Inn at Het Nieuwe Instituut in 2019.&#38;nbsp;The cards were developed in collaboration with Judith Muijs.


Design Oracle is a set of cards that can be used in a participative performance to do readings with an audience.


The game is made to guide makers and creaters in taking more intuitive and associative decisions by acting as a&#38;nbsp;mediator between a maker and their project. The laying&#38;nbsp;of cards is based on traditional tarot and shows different&#38;nbsp;steps that can be taken during a making process.


	It questions the elements that are provided and the elements that are needed in order to continu the creative process

The cards have each their own imagery, symbolism and story to connect with creative processes from different angles. Imaginative metaphors are used to describe practical actions that relate to making and creating.
